Lee Abbamonte is a New York City-based[1] travel blogger, on-air travel personality and entrepreneur who claims to be the youngest American to visit all 193 United Nations member states.[2]

Early life

Lee Abbamonte was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut[3] and raised in Trumbull, Connecticut.[4][5] He graduated in 2000 from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received a degree from the Robert H. Smith School of Business.[6] Abbamonte earned his MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in 2010.[7]

After college, Abbamonte worked on Wall Street, spending time at Cantor Fitzgerald, Intercontinental Exchange and Citigroup and as a senior financial adviser for Merrill Lynch.[8]

Travel career

By 2008, Abbamonte had visited more than 100 countries.[8] In that year he launched his travel blog LeeAbbamonte.com and decided to make an effort to visit every country in the world.[9] He is currently regarded as one of the world's most well-traveled people.[10]

Abbamonte has appeared on television many times, including as an expert on FOX Business,[10] Fox News,[11] Bloomberg,[12] and Fox 5 New York,[13] and as a bachelor party planner on Travel Channel.[14] He has been featured, quoted or written about in dozens of publications including USA Today,[15] BBC,[16] Chicago Tribune,[17] Forbes,[18] New York,[1] Slate,[19] Condé Nast Traveler,[20] ABC News,[21] The Washington Post,[22] Martha Stewart Weddings,[23] The Huffington Post,[24] U.S. News & World Report,[25] and many others.

As a speaker, Abbamonte has appeared at The New York Times Travel Show,[26] South by Southwest,[27] Public Relations Society of America Travel and Tourism Conference,[28] Travel Bloggers Exchange,[29] and New York Trav Fest.[30]

Abbamonte is a member of the Travelers' Century Club[31] and an elected member of the Royal Geographic Society.[6] During an interview on the Frommers Radio Travel Show, Arthur Frommer called him the "Marco Polo of the 21st Century."[32]

With fellow travel bloggers Johnny Jet and Gary Arndt, Abbamonte is a member of the Travel TriFecta LLC,[33] a multimedia marketing partnership.

Interest in sports

Abbamonte is a professed sports fan, having written and spoken about his love of all sports. His favorite teams are the New York Yankees, New York Giants, Maryland Terrapins men's basketball, Miami Hurricanes football, Arsenal F.C., FC Barcelona, and the now-defunct Hartford Whalers.[5][34]

Abbamonte made his television debut in 2006 appearing on the ESPN sports trivia show Stump the Schwab.[35]
