Legend is a 2014 Telugu action drama film produced by Ram Achanta,Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara under 14 Reels Entertainment[8] and Sai Korrapati was presented the film on Varahi Chalana Chitram[1] directed by Boyapati Srinu. Starred Nandamuri Balakrishna, worked for the second time with Boyapati Srinu after Simha, Jagapathi Babu first time in negative shade.[9] alongside Radhika Apte, Sonal Chauhan, in lead roles and music composed by Devi Sri Prasad.[10] Ram Prasad handled the cinematography.[11] The film released on 28 March 2014 worldwide.[12][13] Upon release, the film received positive reviews from critics. The film recorded as Blockbuster at box office.[14][15]

Plot

Jitender (Jagapati Babu) is a man with pride and haughtiness. He cannot tolerate anyone who comes across his way. Once, he goes to a nearby village for a marriage proposal to him. There he gets involved in a quarrel with the village headman (Suman) due to some unfortunate events and gets jailed. Jitender men kidnap young Jai Dev and his mother to bail his leader and they kill Jai Dev's mother and angry Jai Dev kill all his men and Jitender's Father.From then onwards, he tries to take revenge on that family. He kills the family member(Suman) and the village headman one-by-one. Story take leap of 20 years. Krishna (Nandamuri Balakrishna) lives in Dubai while his family is in India. His grandmother and all his family settled in India. Krishna falls for Sneha (Sonal Chauhan) and comes to India to seek the blessings of his grandmother for their marriage.As soon as Krishna arrives in India, he gets involved in quarreling with the gang of Jitendra. When Krishna and his family members are traveling in a bus to visit a temple Jitender's hitmen shoot Krishna and his family members are beaten badly by his henchmen. Krishna's elder brother Jai Dev The Legend (Nandamuri Balakrishna) who remained exiled obeying his grandmother, saves them and Krishna is admitted in a hospital. Then the past is revealed that twenty years back there was a quarrel between Jai Dev and Jitender in which Jai Dev's cousin (Radhika Apte) whom he loved was killed by Jitender. At present, he comes to know that Jitender is going to become Chief Minister of the state.He kills Jitender and take avenge for hurting his family and killing his cousin whom he wants to marry.

Music Composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Lyrics written by Ramajogayya Sastry. All songs are blockbusters. Music released on Lahari Music Company. The music director Devi Sri Prasad, teaming up with Boyapati Srinu for the third time after Bhadra and Tulasi,[16] and scoring for the first time for a Balakrishna film[17] There are six tracks in the album.[18] Audio was bought by Lahari Music for a fancy price.[19][20] The music was launched on 6 March 2014 at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad with the film's theatrical trailer.

Production

Casting

Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan was roped as one of the leading actress.[21] Jagapathi Babu was cast as the antagonist in the film.[22] Kalyani paired up with Jagapathi Babu as his wife.[23] Anil Sunkara confirmed that Radhika Apte was the heroine.[3] Hamsa Nandini appeared in a special song with Balakrishna.[24][25]

Filming

The muhurtham ceremony of the film was held on 3 June 2013[26] in Hyderabad.[1] The film was supposed to start its shoot in Dubai, but the production team decided to start off because Some permissions did not come through in time.[27] The regular shooting of the film started in Ramoji Film City on 13 July 2013 at Hyderabad.The introduction scene of the hero was shot under the action choreography of Ram Laxman.[11] A special car chase sequence of the film was shot in the deserts of Dubai [28] and a song was canned on Balakrishna and Sonal Chauhan in this schedule.[29]

Box office

Legend collected a total of ₹ 55 crore and above and ran for 100 days in 31 centres and 175 days in 2 centres. The film completed 200 days run in two centers (Yemmiganur -Direct (Kurnool district), Proddutur(Kadapa District) -Single Shift). The film also completed 275 days run in 2 centers: Yemmiganur -Direct (Kurnool district), Proddutur (Kadapa District – Single Shift). After Muddula Mavayya, Samarasimha Reddy, Narasimha Naidu and Simha 5th film to complete double century.[30] The Film turned out to be one of the Biggest Blockbusters of all time in Nandamuri Balakrishna's career.[31]

The film completed 365 days run in two theatres and is running towards 400 days in Mini Shiva theatre in Emmigannur, Kurnool district with direct four shows and it also completed 365 days in Proddutur (56 days in Arveti theatre and 310 days (single shift 4 shows) at Archana theatre).[32]

Pre-release business

The first look of the film was released on 1 January 2014[33] and the satellite rights of the film were reportedly bought for ₹8.5 crore by Gemini TV.[34]

Legend had a Pre-release revenue's up to ₹56.5 crore (US$8.4 million) with distribution,music and satellite rights.[35][36]

The film was released across the World on 28 March 2014.[6][37]
