Lekhnath (Nepali: लेखनाथ नगरपालिका) is a municipality in Kaski District in the Gandaki Zone of northern-central Nepal. It is located in the south eastern part of the Pokhara Valley, about 1 km southeast of Pokhara and about 180 km west of Kathmandu. It is connected to the Pokhara municipality through a bridge in Bijaypur river at west and Kotre river at east which joins the Prithvi highway. Total population of the city is 71,434 as per the census carried out in 2011. Composition of the population is 86% Hindu, 8% Buddhist and 6% others. The town is very spread out and has no down-town or centre.

Lekhnath is named after the famous Nepali poet Lekhnath Paudyal (1885–1966), who was born at Arghaun Archale, present ward no 6 of Lekhnath Municipality. The city is also entitled as the garden city of seven lakes. The seven lakes are Begnas, Rupa, Khaste, Depang, Maidi, Neureni and Gunde.[1] Except Begnas and Rupa most of the other lakes are little known to the outsiders. There are total of 18 wards in the municipality with recently added the then VDC Bharatpokhari.

Lekhnath possesses many terrains and mountain view sites. It is also becoming a famous destination among trekkers as some of the comfortable and short trekking routes in Pokhara valley begin here.

Rightly called eastern gateway to Pokhara, Lekhanth, is the place from where you can catch the view of the whole Annapurna range including Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri.


Radha Krishna Shanti Ashram Lame Al is the public temple complex was established by late 1008 Golokbasi Bhagawat Sharan Devacharya Maharaj. This is one of the major religious and spiritual center in the region. Temple has been one of the major center of the Nimbarka Sampradaya. Temple has played leadership role in developing social, spiritual well being in the Lekhnath Municipality. The temple is famous among the radha Krishna devotees. Daily bhagawatsewa, gosewa and public feasts are conducted on regular basis. Temple has been center of srimad bhagawat saptah, ekah, rudri, public marriage ceremony, bratabandha for the public. Gagangaunga, Shishuwa, Lekhnath chok, Janatako Chautara, Satmuhane, Budhibazar, Dhungepatan, Khudi, Sainik, Talchok are some big and notable places of Lekhnath. Primary health center in temple premises has been a growing demand of the local communities because of the old age homes and local under served communities.
