List of Against The Tide episodes
MediaCorp Channel 8's television series Against The Tide is a psychological drama series produced by MediaCorp Singapore in 2014.[1] The series, which stars Christopher Lee and Rui En as the main characters, will explore the mind and psyche of the subject, with the struggles and darkness of humanity.
As of 24 October 2014, all 23 episodes of Against The Tide have been aired on MediaCorp Channel 8.

| Acclaimed crime novelist Di Shen (Christopher Lee) makes it his mission to expose the evil in humans, as he believes all humans are born depraved. Di Shen is doing a television interview when Agnes manages to escape after being held captive and tortured. As police officers Zhou Jianfeng (Desmond Tan) and Guo Jingcheng/Cartoon (Xu Bin) fail to get anything out of Agnes, they ask a psychiatrist, Qiu Xueqing (Rui En), to put Agnes under hypnosis. Agnes reveals the assailant is the strong boxer type and was holding a copy of Di Shen’s novel. She had become acquainted with the assailant online. Jianfeng turns up at Di Shen’s booking-signing event and asks him to assist the police, who believe the assailant was mimicking the culprit in one of Di Shen’s novels. | ||

| When Di Shen failed to make Zhenye speak, the devil in him rose. He almost killed Zhenye. Due to the lack of concrete evidence, Jianfeng had to release Zhenye. Locked in the car boot, Xueqing struggled for breath, it was her will power that kept her alive. | The mysterious man did a recording and uploaded it onto the internet. He called himself the “Upholder of Justice”. In his video, he told the public that they had 12 hours to vote how they wanted Tianrui to be punished. Xueqing discussed with Jianfeng and Jingcheng about the case and found out that it was once again related to Di Shen’s novel. | ||

| Xueqing helped her uncle to investigate the murder case of Li Aiqin, and with the help of Di Shen, they managed to trace a suspect – Tang Rongyao. When Xueqing was reminded about the death of her father, she was devastated once again. | The mysterious man kidnapped Luo Jingzhu (Hong Huifang), forced her to reveal how she committed the crime, and after which, used back the same methods on her. Under the interrogation of Jianfeng, Jingzhu admits and told Xueqing that her father’s death was indirectly caused by her. Xueqing was traumatized. Jianfeng suspects that Di Shen was the mysterious man but however had no proof to warrant his suspicion. | ||

| The case of “the hammering assault” returns, Jianfeng and Jingcheng found Chen Zhifeng (Cavin Soh) who was the mastermind of the previous assault. Jingcheng was afraid that Zhifeng will remember what happened 7 years ago, hence become overly suspicious about everything. He followed Zhifeng in the dark and found some possible leads. | Di Shen agreed to help Jingcheng plan a meet up with Chen Zhifeng to end their grudges, however Jingcheng killed Zhifeng by accident. All was seen by Jianfeng. Jingcheng sought Di Shen’s help to escape, but bumped into Xueqing which got her suspecting. She informed Jianfeng immediately. When Jingcheng holds onto Xueqing as hostage, he was stabbed to death by Di Yao. | ||

| Di Yao couldn’t accept the fact that she killed Jingcheng. Some images flashed through in her mind when she read about a road accident case, it seemed so familiar. What’s weirder was that a guy named Jacob (James Seah) insisted that both of them know each other, but Di Yao had no impression of befriending him. She was in a great state of confusion. | ||

| Keji (Aloysius Pang) met up with Xueqing and Gangyi after a long while; throughout this time, he could never forget Xueqing. | Di Yao was diagnosed with split personality disorder. Xueqing suggested to let her admit into hospital to get her treated, however was violently objected by Di Shen. In order to avoid a court case, Di Yao went to apologise to Jacob for assaulting him, and was even humiliated by him. Di Shen couldn’t control any further when he learnt about it, and he went forth and punished Jacob by his means. | ||

| Xueqing tailed Di Shen and found Jacob’s dead body, she started suspecting Di Shen. She felt really upset when Di Shen refused to be honest with her, and when she found out that Di Shen was hiding a lot from her, she started interrogating him. Di Shen relented and told her the story behind her father’s death. | ||

| Gangyi fell into Keji’s trap and finally saw his true colours, however, that cost his life. Xueqing decided to have a breakup with Di Shen after realising how much he had lied to her. It was a double blow for her when she found out the death of her uncle. | ||

| Shadow Walker appeared on the Internet once again, and this time, he left some clues for Jianfeng and his team to track down the mysterious man. To their surprise, the person is revealed to be Dingkang. After further investigations, Jianfeng found out that Dingkang, Jingcheng, Jingxuan and Di Shen came from the same university. He suspected that Shadow Walker started from them. | ||

| Di Shen found out about Xueqing’s plot of revenge, and he decided to turn in to end off all hatred. However, Xueqing’s plan was unstoppable. She and Di Yao, together killed Jingxuan; she wanted Di Shen to lose every single person close to him, and wanted him to bear the same misery as she did. At that point, Di Shen suddenly saw Xueqing's true colours and how evil she is. | ||

After gathering all the evidence, Jianfeng realised that Xueqing was the mastermind, she killed Jingxuan. Heartbroken, Jianfeng gave Xueqing a chance to turn in. Dingkang suddenly appeared, capturing Xueqing and Di Yao. He wanted Di Shen and Xueqing to pay the price for killing Jingxuan. Then, a fierce fight began… In detail:
Xueqing (Rui En), sitting alone in the balcony in Di Shen's room, begins to overturn the items in the box, and pulls out a revolver.
Late at night, Scarlet (Carrie Wong), who appears to have reverted back to her own hairstyle, is seen to return after shopping for clothes. The next day, Jianfeng (Desmond Tan) helps Yongjun (Qiu Wen) at the provision shop and have tea, recounting his childhood memories. Scarlet, in her own room, receives a call from Xueqing in her service centre room, only to be accused of the murders of He Hailiang and Zhang Jingxuan. Xueqing utters "Conscience Unleashed", unlocking the cage Di Yao (Carrie Wong) was trapped in and ensuing a struggle between Di Yao and Scarlet in her conscience, and causing her in the real world to suffer a schizophrenia relapse, attracting the attention of Di Shen. When he came into her room, Di Yao asks why she is not in the mental hospital, but Scarlet in Di Yao's body rushes to get a kitchen knife with the intention to kill Xueqing. Di Shen gives chase, but Scarlet injures Di Shen's hand. Both of them separate at the back alley, with Scarlet hiding in the corner, but the latter gets a relapse again. Jianfeng meets Xueqing at the service centre and goes out early; the latter being targeted by Dingkang (Zhang Zhenhuan).
While Di Shen is looking for Xueqing, Jianfeng and Xueqing return to the crime scene of He Hailiang's death. Jianfeng deduces that Jingxuan is not Shadow Walker, and concludes Xueqing murdered He Hailiang (Zhang Wen Xiang), revealing that he still has Jingxuan's recording Xueqing has deleted. He wants her to surrender, but Xueqing, when she was hugging him, snatches his revolver from the back, trying to shoot him. She could not bring herself to do so; Jianfeng lowers the revlover down, and comforts her. Jianfeng travels Xueqing to the police station, promising to find evidence to accuse Di Shen of killing Qiu Gangzheng, but Dingkang crashes his car, bringing Xueqing to his car. He implicitly warns Jianfeng not to follow, otherwise he will kill Xueqing, and drives off. Dingkang gives a call to Di Shen, revealing that he kidnapped Di Yao and Xueqing, and give him an hour to find Hong Qiming (Ding Sen Yan), who was suspected of killing a 24-year-old woman a year ago but was acquitted.
Dingkang accuses Xueqing of killing Jingxuan, who he loves and wants to spend his life with. He went outside and vents his sadness. It was revealed that Jianfeng had an internal injury from the car accident earlier; Di Shen told him not to send enforcements in order not to harm Xueqing and Di Yao even more. Di Shen finds Hong Qiming and traps him to the boot of his jeep, and was ordered by Dingkang to be brought to the scene of the kidnap in 20 minutes. Jianfeng, who has just arrived, gives him his bulletproof police vest and his revolver. Di Shen brings Hong Qiming to a vacated room in the scene of the kidnap, where Shadow Walker (Dingkang) announces the live recording of Hong Qiming's punishment, with Di Shen and Hong Qiming appearing in the recording, with the intention of framing Di Shen as Shadow Walker. Hong Qiming gets two shots by Di Shen - first on his left shoulder, then on his chest. A still-injured Jianfeng arrives shortly after, and frees Hong Qiming, who survived wearing Jianfeng's bulletproof vest.
Di Shen barges in to where Xueqing and Di Yao were kidnapped. Dingkang orders Di Shen to put his revolver down, and wants him to choose between Xueqing and Di Yao. Under pressure, Di shen chose Xueqing. Jianfeng initially wants to kill Xueqing, but regrets his decision, and targets Di Yao; Jianfeng suddenly captures Dingkang, and gets into a gunfire struggle. In this ensuing struggle, Di Yao is being thrown to the ground level, and Jianfeng shoots Dingkang. Jianfeng then collapses, vomiting a pool of blood, and truly expresses to Xueqing that he still loves the good Xueqing before he dies. In the aftermath, Di Yao is sent to the hospital where she is warded in the Intensive Care Unit due to her being diagnosed comatose.
At night, Xueqing is sitting alone in Di Shen's room when Di Shen returns back. She admits that she intends to revenge by killing everyone associated with Di Shen and leaves him with his own problems, and makes it clear that Di Yao is not innocent since she is responsible for the murder of He Hailiang. She wants to kill Di Shen using the revolver but cannot bring herself to do so as they remembers the times they shared together. After she recites Martin Luther King's quote of "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, hate cannot drive out hate, only love can", she tries to commit suicide by pulling the trigger...
The plot goes back to 7 years ago, where Di Shen went into Qiu Gangzheng's funeral and apologized to Xueqing. He is sentenced to jail; writing novels during his jail term. Upon his release, he went to the bookstore to read his own novels that were published, and meets Xueqing there. This is the ending of Di Shen's latest and final novel The Burning Snow, and reads the story firsthand to the comatose Di Yao whom he had brought back home, in hopes of waking her up. Xueqing is seeing consultations with a counselor, revealing to have lost her memory since that incident, and is gradually accepting who she is. As Di Shen walked out of his house in white, Di Yao's eyes opened for the first time. At the venue of Di Shen's book event, Di Shen and Xueqing pass by each other. It was revealed that Xueqing had survived the gunfire by being saved by Di Shen, but fell down the pool. Di Shen and Xueqing stopped in their tracks, look at each other and smiled. | ||
