Notes

  1. Overtime rules in college football were introduced in 1996, making ties impossible in the period since.[1]
  2. The AP Poll has ranked the top 20 teams 1936–61 and 1968–88, the top 10 teams 1962–67, and the top 25 teams since 1989. The Coaches' Poll has ranked the top 20 teams from 1950–89 and the top 25 teams since 1990.
