Bowlers have taken twenty-three five-wicket hauls in Tests and sixteen five-wicket hauls in One Day International matches played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, formerly known as the Mirpur Stadium due to its location in the city's locality of Mirpur, is a sports ground in Dhaka, Bangladesh that has hosted international cricket matches along with provincial games.[1] It is named after A. K. Fazlul Huq, the first Prime Minister of Bengal, who was accorded the title Sher-e-Bangla ("The Tiger of Bengal"). The venue was taken over by the Bangladesh Cricket Board in 2004, replacing the Bangabandhu National Stadium as the home of both the men's and women's national teams. It has a capacity of 25,000 spectators for international matches.[1] The first One Day International (ODI) at the ground was played between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in 2006, and the first Test was held between Bangladesh and India the following year.[2][3] As of November 2016, it has hosted a further 15 Test matches and 98 ODI matches.[2][3]

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer")[4][5] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.[6] The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at Mirpur was Zaheer Khan for India against Bangladesh in 2007; he finished the innings with bowling figures of five wickets for 34 runs.[7][8] Sohag Gazi is the only bowler to achieve five wickets this record here on Test debut, with figures of six wickets for 74 runs.[9] The best figures in Test cricket at this venue are eight wickets for 39 runs, taken by Bangladesh's Taijul Islam against Zimbabwe in 2014.[10] Mehedi Hasan is the latest Test bowler to take five wicket at Mirpur, with figures of six wickets for 77 runs. As of November 2016, there have been 23 Test match five-wicket hauls at this ground.[10]

As of November 2016, 16 five-wicket hauls were taken during ODIs at Mirpur. The first player to do so was Farhad Reza of Bangladesh, who achieved the feat when he took five wickets for 42 runs against Ireland in 2008.[11] Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Kagiso Rabada and Jake Ball are the bowlers to take 5 wickets on ODI debut,[12][13][14][15][16] making this the only venue where four bowlers have achieved this record.[17] Along with this, Rabada picked up a hat-trick,[18] and also his figures of six wickets for 16 runs is the best by a bowler on debut.[19] Stuart Binny holds the best ODI bowling figures of 6 wickets for four runs.[20] Jake Ball is the most recent bowler to take a five-wicket haul at Mirpur, with figures of five wickets for 51 runs.[11]
