Livewire1350 (more commonly referred to as simply Livewire) is a student radio station run by students of the University of East Anglia. Shows are broadcast live throughout the day from 09:00 till 00:00, and include a variety of shows with differing musical themes, currently with a predominant trend towards new music. History
Livewire was first broadcast in the academic year of 1989/1990, opened by John Peel and is known as one of the longest running student radio stations. In recent years due to technical problems Livewire does not broadcast via the 1350am transmitter but instead online and the Tune In app.
Structure
Livewire broadcasts online and in the University's coffee shop, Unio, from 09:00 until 00:00 every day. There are three main types of show: daytime shows are broadcast up until 16:30 and feature more entertainment based content. From 16:30-18:00, there are factual shows, featuring speech programming including Sports, Film and Music shows. From 18:00-00:00, the station moves into specialist programming. Specialist shows focus on specific music genres, such as rap, rock, jazz, folk and hip hop. Themes such as live music and music from different decades also feature throughout the week.
Management
The current station manager is Alex Edge who will manage the station 16/17. He manages a team of 14 people who head up different areas of the station, they are as follows -

Live Events
Aside from the radio broadcast, Livewire organises numerous amount live events around campus.
Livewire Presents... The Battle of The Bands
Livewire Presents... The Battle of The Bands (Previously Livewire Unsigned) is a competition broadcast and run by Livewire, normally held in November. It is a Battle of the Bands open to bands based at the University of East Anglia. The winner of the competition in 2015 was Dazy Crown.
Livewire Jailbreak
Livewire Jailbreak is an event run for charity. Held in February/March, it is open to teams of UEA students, who have 48 hours to get as far away from campus as possible (distance is calculated as the crow flies), without spending any money on transport. Teams must use persuasion and negotiation to get on trains, buses or to hitchike in vehicles. The 2016 attempt saw the station raise over £10,000 for charity.
The winners of Livewire Jailbreak 2016 were Team Jelbreak, who traveled to Toronto, Canada within the 48 hours.
Derby Day
Livewire also broadcasts Derby Day, the annual varsity competition between UEA and the University of Essex, live, providing updates and a running total of the score on the day.
