Lokman Khan Sherwani (14 August 1910 – 27 August 1969) was a Bengali poet and journalist. Lokman Khan Sherwani was married to Shobnom Khanam Sherwani, who was also an active member of the Forward Block.
Political life
He served as the provincial vice-president of the All India Forward Block under its founder Subhas Chandra Bose who continued to call for the full and immediate independence of India from British rule. Sherwani served in many political activities, including (but not limited to):
- Provincial Vice-President of Forward Block
- President, All Bengal Tenant Farmers Committee
- President, All Bengal Tenant Farmers Committee
- President, Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Workers Union
- President, Assam Bengal Railmen Union
- Presidential Member of the Bengal Farmers Committee
- Member of All India Farmers' Executive Committee
Imprisonment by British
After the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Lokman was imprisoned by the British authorities in 1944 and 1945. Lokman Khan Sherwani wrote from Dhaka Central Jail on 19-2-1944 (Bangladesh) and Lokman Khan Sherwani wrote from Dum Dum Central Jail on 27-1-1945 (India).

Books and Magazines
He authored several books including Shaobnom which was dedicated with poetry for Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore's birth day 25th Boishak, Rokkhok Vhokok Hole Rokkha Kore Ke, Lokman Bani, Bidrohi Arab, Rupaiton, and Damama.[1]
He served as editors of several Bengali newspapers and weekly magazines.[2]
He has the credit of editing the first Bangla weekly newspaper. (Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka University)
Prize Received from Rabindranath Tagore
Sherwani's poem entitled "25th Boishak" received the first prize at the Shanti Niketon's Rabindranath Tagore Birthday Poetry Competition. He received cash award of 2,500 Rupees from Bishho Varoti and Tagore handed him the prize.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Introduced Sherwani to Robindranath Tagore
On one occasion, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose introduced Sherwani to Robindranath Tagore. Tagore was very pleased to meet him and praised him for his involvement in Indian Independence movement from British rule. source
