Louisa Bertman

Louisa Bertman is an American illustrator living in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[1] She is known for her "untraditional portraitures of celebrities and personalities".[2]

Personal life

Louisa Bertman was born in Newton, Massachusetts.[1] Jonathan Bertman is her older brother. Her father is Richard Bertman, an architect and sculptor who has worked with her on occasion.[3]

She attended high school at The Cambridge School of Weston.[1] She went to NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and was a professional modern dancer in New York City. While dancing, she attended Parsons The New School for Design to focus on illustration and animation.

Professional career

Bertman's work has appeared in media including newspapers such as The Village Voice and Los Angeles Times,[4] and magazines such as GQ.[4]

She has painted many celebrities including Tom and Ray Magliozzi for NPR's yearly calendar;[5] and Michelle Obama for BUST Magazine.[6]

In 2010, Bertman was commissioned by the American Idiot producer Laurence Kaye (Hop Theatricals) to create a signed/numbered limited edition series of 10 prints in celebration of American Idiot's opening night on Broadway.[3]
