Love and Sas were a Canadian R&B, funk, and rap influenced pop duo who scored several Top 40 hits on Canadian pop charts.
Career
Origin
The group was the creation of Richie Mayer and award winning record producer David Bendeth, at the time worked for BMG Canada, in 1991.[1] Lovena 'Love' Fox was the lead singer from Vancouver, who had worked as a back-up singer for Bon Jovi, The Payolas, and Colin James. Saskia 'Sas' Garel was born in Kingston, Jamaica of Chinese, Spanish, and Afro-Caribbean descent, and had jazz and classical voice training. Saskia is a graduate from Claude Watson School of the Arts, The Royal Conservatory of Music and York University who won the Oscar Peterson Award for high artistic standards.[2]
The two, according to Jam! Showbiz,[2] were considered the Canadian equivalent of American female rappers Salt-N-Pepa, released their first album Call My Name in 1991 which spawned the singles "I Don't Need Yo' Kiss" and "Call My Name". "Don't Stop Now" and "Once in a Lifetime". "I Don't Need Yo' Kiss" was significant for featuring one of the first Canadian female rap performances, which was performed by Sas. Their two albums won the Juno awards for 'Best R&B Recording' twice in a row.[2]
The duo successfully toured Canada, U.S., and the UK, but split in the summer of 1993 due to creative differences.
