Lyn Stanley

Lyn Stanley is an American jazz singer who embarked on her recording career in 2013.

Biography

Stanley was born in Tacoma, Washington where she grew up in a musical family. Her father was a jazz pianist while her grandfather, who had emigrated from Bulgaria, was an opera singer.[1] She began her professional life in advertising before training as a ballroom dancer. From 2010, she became increasingly interested in singing.[2] After taking singing lessons for a few months, in 2013 she launched her singing career with her album Lost In Romance.[3][4][5] She released her 2014 sophomore album, Potions [from the 50s], as an original analog tape album (2 inch 24 track) which was listed on the 2015-2016 Grammy award ballot in four categories.[6]

Stanley has recorded at Capitol Recording Studios, Conway and United Recording studios in Hollywood CA and Avatar Recording Studio in New York City. She has been recognized for her vinyl recordings, hybrid stereo CDs, and music downloads.[7][8]

Stanley's singing career has given her international status with three worldwide releases between November 2013 and January 2016 in the jazz vocal genre space. Her debut recording, the 2013 release entitled Lost in Romance, was an overnight international success and she achieved recognition and critical acclaim. Her first two albums became #1 Jazz Vocal albums on CDBaby.com.[9] With the release of her second album, Potions [from the 50s], Stanley tracked popular songs of the 1950s.[10][11] In October 2015 she released her third album, Interludes in Tokyo, Japan[12][13] and launched a USA radio campaign in January 2016 for this album. Engineers Al Schmitt and Bernie Grundman are used for recording, mixing and mastering most of her projects.

On January 15, 2016, a party was held at the La Cicada Club in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of her album Interludes. Annette Warren, now 93, was one of those who performed at the show. Together with her husband, the pianist Paul Smith, Warren had encouraged Stanley to give up her ballroom-dancing career four years earlier in order to become a jazz singer.[14]
