Maharashtra Mandal in Dar es Salaam

The Maharashtra Mandal in Dar es Salaam is a Maharashtra Mandal—a social group consisting of diaspora of Maharashtra in India—based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.[1]

There are some similarities in words of Swahili and Marathi because of impact of Persian and Gujarathi languages on Marathi and Swahili. Many words like Dar, Duka, Rangi and Sanduku are common to both languages.

Maharashtrians in Dar es Salaam arrange their small community get-togethers often including plays, music programmes etc. Every year Mahrashtrians celebrate Ganesh Festival in big way and all other communities too join and enjoy Genesh festival.
