Mamdot took oath as chief minister of punjab on 15 August 1947 on the day of independence of India and after the independence of Pakistan.[5][6][7] He governed for 17 months (15 Aug 1947-25 Jan 1949), until he was removed from government on 25 January 1949.[6] He was succeeded by Governor's Rule.
