Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (Manitoba)
The Minister of Agriculture is a cabinet minister in the province of Manitoba, Canada. The minister oversees Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, a department is often referred to as MAFRI. MAFRI was created on November 4, 2003 when the department of Agriculture and Food was merged with Rural Initiatives and Cooperative Development (both from the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs).
Prior to 1999, the minister was styled as the Minister of Agriculture. During the early 21st century executive responsibilities for Agriculture and Immigration were merged into one portfolio. On May 3, 2016 the Pallister government renamed the cabinet position as the "Minister of Agriculture".
The current Minister of Agriculture is Ralph Eichler of the Progressive Conservatives.
