Mark Louis (born April 18, 1987) is a Canadian professional ice hockey Defenseman. He is currently playing with the Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

Playing career

Louis played five seasons (2003 – 2008) of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), scoring 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points, while earning 379 penalty minutes, in 303 WHL games played. He then attended St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia where he played 41 CIS hockey games in the Atlantic conference from 2008 – 2012.

On April 30, 2012, the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League signed Louis to an entry-level contract,[1] and on July 22, 2013 the Coyotes re-signed Louis for another two years.[2]

In the final year of his contract with the Coyotes, and yet to make his debut, Louis was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for goaltender David Leggio on March 2, 2015; he was assigned to their minor league affiliate, the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.[3]

As a free agent from the Islanders, Louis failed to garner an NHL/AHL contract offer and was subsequently signed to a one-year deal with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL on October 1, 2015. At the beginning of the 2015–16 season, Louis was traded before playing with the Steelheads to the Orlando Solar Bears on October 14, 2015.[4] Louis appeared in 71 games for the Solar Bears from the blueline, in adding physicality to the defense he posted 152 penalty minutes.

On July 22, 2016, as a free agent in the off-season, Louis opted to sign a one-year deal with Welsh club, the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL.[5]
