Mark Mathews is an Australian professional Big wave surfer.[1][2][3][4] Mathews has competed on the ASP World Tour and is featured in the 2011 documentary Fighting Fear.[5]

Early career

Mathews grew up surfing at Maroubra, New South Wales with fellow Bra Boys the Abberton brothers.[6]

Big waves

Mathews transition to big waves has seen him carve a niche in the sport as one of the top big wave surfers in the world.[7] Mathews has surfed many of the worlds heaviest and biggest waves [8] including Teahupo'o, The Right[9] and Shipstern Bluff.

Red Bull Cape Fear 2014

Mathews and fellow professional surfer Ryan Hipwood organised the Red Bull Cape Fear event in August 2014.[10]

Film and Television

Fighting Fear focus' on the friendship of Mathews and Richie Vaculik who have also featured on the ABC's Australian Story[11] and The Crew.

Mathews featured alongside Kelly Slater and Richie Vaculik in Australian big wave films Journey and Encoded (2014).[12]
