Mir 'Ali Mardan Khan, Nuzrat ol-Molk
Mir 'Ali Mardan Shah, Nuzrat ol-Molk (1840 – 1903) was a prominent Persian ruler and one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Persia. His defeat of Turkomans and Afghans in 1868 put him in the top rank of Persia's military heroes.
Mir Ali Mardan Khan and his ancestors bore the title "shah" and were rulers over the Timuri and related tribes in eastern Iran. Both his father and grandfather, Mohammad Khan and Ghelich Khan were rulers over large sections of eastern Iran and also both bore the title of "shah".
Background
Nuzrat ol-Molk was born in Mashhad, belonging to the ruling dynasty that traditionally reigned over Khorasan and led the Tirmuri tribe.
