Momondo Group Ltd. is the parent company for travel metasearch websites Cheapflights and momondo. The company was founded in 1996 as Cheapflights and changed its name to Momondo Group in 2012.[1][2] As of 2016, Momondo Group has 250 employees and offices in London, Copenhagen and Boston.[3]

History

Momondo Group was founded in 1996 as the comparison travel deals site, Cheapflights, by the travel editor of Harpers & Queen, John Hatt.[4] In 2000, the company was purchased by David Soskin and Hugo Burge.[5] The company expanded its business to the U.S. in 2003, when it launched cheapflights.com and opened an office in Boston.[6]

Cheapflights became Cheapflights Media in 2010, and acquired the Denmark-based travel metasearch site momondo.com in 2011.[7][8] In 2012, the company underwent a rebranding that included changing its name from Cheapflights Media Ltd. to Momondo Group Ltd.[9] Momondo Group received a $130 million private equity investment from Great Hill Partners in 2014.[10]

In May 2016, it was reported that the company had $30 million in first quarter revenue.[11]
