Mount Sinai Fire Department

The Mount Sinai Fire Department (MSFD) was formed on October 25, 1930 in Mount Sinai, New York, after a house burned down due to the fact that the neighboring department took 20 minutes to get to the scene. The residents of Mount Sinai got together in order to form a fire department. Now, they hold annual open house at the Headquarters building, and many fundraising events. The Mount Sinai Fire District covers approximately 5.5 square miles including parts of the Mount Sinai Harbor and Long Island Sound. The MSFD runs a monthly program, the Mount Sinai Junior Company. This is a program where residents of Mount Sinai can become involved in training to become a firefighter when they are eligible at age 18. The minimal age is 14 years.
