Moving Picture Company
Moving Picture Company (MPC) is a visual effects studio headquartered in Soho, London with global facilities hosted in Vancouver, Los Angeles, New York, Montreal, Amsterdam, Bengaluru, Paris, and Shanghai.[1]
The MPC was founded in 1974 by Mike Luckwell,[1] and soon became one of the biggest post-production providers in Europe. Luckwell sold MPC to Carlton Communications in 1983 for a mixture of cash and shares. In so doing, he became Carlton's Managing Director and largest individual shareholder.[2] During Carlton's 2004 merger with Granada to create ITV London, they sold the MPC to French group Thomson SA for £52.7 million.[3] Following the acquisition, Thomson, now known as Technicolor SA, aimed to make MPC grow by getting more film work.[4] By the end of the decade it was considered one of the major effects companies of the world.[5][6]
