The armored MOWAG 3M1 Pirat is a armored personal carrier of the company Mowag from Switzerland.
History and Development
Prompted by the development project of the future German Marder armored personnel carrier, which has been evaluated in several trials and test series. MOWAG developed in 1966 the armored 3M1 Model 1 - 6, which is based on the Mowag Pirat. New compared to the Pirat was the arrangement of the drive unit in the engine compartment, which is located in the middle of the vehicle. Also, a new feature was the complete production of all drive components such as engine, transmission, and cooling from MOWAG itself. The 3M1 never got into production.
Its development also started the development of the MOWAG apex gun carriage. Which were manufactured for the Marder series in 2000 pieces in Kreuzlingen and 8000 ball Aperturen (gas density spherical shooting flaps) and other products from other countries in a total of several thousand units could be delivered.
