NISGUA
The Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) is a U.S.-based human rights NGO that was officially formed in 1981 to advocate for human rights in Guatemala and a more just U.S. foreign policy. With offices in Oakland, CA and in Guatemala City, NISGUA works for real democracy in Guatemala and the U.S. and strengthens the global movement for justice. NISGUA builds mutually beneficial grassroots ties between the people of the U.S. and Guatemala and advocates for grassroots alternatives to challenge elite power structures and oppressive U.S. economic and foreign policy.
Guatemalan Accompaniment Project (G.A.P)
Accompaniment is a non-violent, peaceful tool used by human rights organizations across the world. NISGUA participates in the global struggle to ensure respect for human rights by placing volunteers side-by-side with individuals, communities and organizations working on sensitive issues ranging from precedent-setting legal cases to indigenous rights and environmental justice. In communities, courtrooms and public activities, G.A.P.'s presence in Guatemala has created the space for Guatemalans to organize in defense of their own rights by enabling activists to advance their work with international support.
