On 18 November 1982, a suicide bomb attack was made against a facility housing the main computer database of the New Zealand Police in Whanganui. The attacker, a "punk rock" anarchist named Neil Roberts, was the only person killed, and the computer system was undamaged.[1][2]
Roberts spray painted a slogan prior to his death: "We have maintained a silence closely resembling stupidity" (a quote from Bolivian revolutionary Junta Tuitiva) followed by the anarchy is order sign (A circled by an O) and the words "anarchy - peace thinking".[1]
He had been active in various protest movements including the 1981 anti Springbok tour protests.[3]
