Nicolás García Mayor (Bahía Blanca, December 15, 1978) is an Argentine industrial designer focused in humanitarian development and preservation of the environment. He worked and lived in Europe conducting various architectural and design projects. Today his designs travel around the globe and are exposed in different parts of the world. Among other recognitions, in 2014 he was awarded by JCI with World TOYP for his contribution to children, world peace and Human Rights. According to the presidency of Argentina is a 'pride for the country'.[1] The United States of America gave his residence permanent as Brillant Talent Person with Extraordinary Ability and has been recognized for those achievements. Called ¨The man who created a Space to save the lives of people in distress around the globe¨ with his important humanitarian innovation Called Cmax System. Nicolás García Mayor is consultant to The United Nations UN,[2] various world governments and world organizations like The Inter-American Development Bank IDB, and conforms research groups with the CONICET in Argentina, Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi, Nifeg (Nigeria Energy Future Group), Salzburg Seminar in Austria, among others.

Biography

He was born on December 15, 1978 in Bahia Blanca (an important city, south of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina). After obtaining his degree in Computer Technician, he moved to La Plata and graduated in Industrial Design at the National University of La Plata, Faculty of Fine Arts, for a postgraduate later in EcoDesign. In 2000 he founded Ar estudio, dedicated to solve design problems in an interdisciplinary way. In 2001, for his final thesis, he developed a system of emergency housing shelters for natural disaster relief, the Cmax System.[3] After graduating as an industrial designer, in 2003, he moved to Tarragona, Spain where designed and developed new products and architectural works for different companies and government bodies. In 2004, back in Argentina, he reopened Ar study, created a new design space and did work for different companies like Zona Franca de las Américas, Cargill, Petrobras, Puerto de Bahía Blanca, Clarín(one of the most important newspapers in Argentina), YPF, Dow, Government of Portugal, Government of Bahía Blanca, Security Ministries Buenos Aires among others. In 2010 Garcia Mayor was founder and chairman of the Department of Young Entrepreneurs of the Industrial Union of Bahía Blanca,[4] a supportive space for young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs in the region. He has designed and developed more than 200 projects from a bottle opener, to a hotel in Tarragona, a Series of Ecological Iluminaria, a tourist information booth, among other works and industrial design products. He has given lectures, workshops and classes at universities in Argentina,[5] and has done consulting for product development companies and agencies in different parts of the world.[6]

Cmax is an emergency shelter system that provides immediate housing assistance for homeless people. It was created to dignify and improve the quality of life of people affected by natural disasters, wars, etc.[9] This invention combines the features of tents and trailers, includes housing shelters, sanitary units and survival kits. The system was designed to operate in a Global Network of Refugee Assistance enabling immediate response and promoting solidarity among nations. In 2013 the Cmax System was chosen by the Chancery Argentina to participate in the Forum for International Humanitarian Aid Development held in Washington. In that event, which brings together different international organizations like the UN and Red Cross, emergency interior received countless accolades and the request to present it at the opening theme of the UN General Assembly in September of that year.[10] In that occasion Garcia Mayor presented the system to the most important representatives of the Nations of the world in the UN Headquarters in New York.[11] This humanitarian invention also came at the hands of Pope Francis, in an interview he gave Garcia Mayor, in which His Holiness encouraged him not to give up and said that "the project was already blessed by God".[12] The Cmax system will be presented in the Argentine stand in DIHAD (Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development) 2014 in Dubai.

Ar is a study of design and development of innovations,[13] which was repeatedly honored for his achievements in this field.[14] Ar Study has national and international experience in the field of product design whether physical spaces or comprehensive picture of companies around the world. It’s composed of a multidisciplinary creative team of young professionals who create solutions to improve the quality of life of people.

Fundacionar was founded and is currently presided by Nicolás García Mayor. It arises with the idea of promoting a change in the world through humanitarian innovation and promoting the UN 8 Millennium Development Goals. His vision is of a world where unprotected and vulnerable people have access to a better, more dignified and happy life. Its mission is to promote and support innovative ideas to help improve the quality of life of the people, by delivering solutions to global humanitarian issues. Its ultimate goal is to implement a Global Network for Refugee Assistance which will reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, help fight disease and promote brotherhood among nations and ongoing dialogue for Sustainable Development.
