Nicolas Chumachenco

Nicolas Chumachenco (also known as Nicolas Chumachenko), is a Polish-born violin soloist, professor and director of the Queen Sofía Chamber Orchestra.[1]

Biography

Born in Poland to Russian parents, Chumachenco grew and started his musical training in Argentina. Nicolas left Argentina to study in the United States at the University of Southern California with Jascha Heifetz and later at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia with Efrem Zimbalist and won awards at the International Tchaikovsky Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition.[2] Nicolas has appeared as soloist with many important orchestras conducted by artist such as Zubin Mehta, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Peter Maag and Rudolf Kempe.[3]

Chumachenco has been first violin of the Zurich Quartet, professor of violin at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and serves as leader and music director of the Queen Sofía Chamber Orchestra in Madrid.[4]
