NEW (North East Wakefield) College is a coeducational, sixth form college in Pontefract, near Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England.
History
The school on the site was originally built in the Victorian era as a slaughter house before being demolished, later the Pontefract Girls' High School, before finally opening as the college in 1987.
Academics
NEW College is one of the highest achieving colleges in England, enjoying a 98.3% pass rate in 2011.[1] It also has an extensive Careers and Higher Education service providing advice and guidance; visiting speakers; visits and work experience. The College's overall points score per candidate rose to 316.9 in 2006, putting NEW College in the Top 20 colleges in the national table published in The Guardian newspaper.
In 2015 NEW College received its highest results ever, achieving a pass rate of 100% with 56% being A*-B grades and 82% A*-C. Principal Pauline Hagen described the results as “a reflection of both the very high standards set by teachers and the way in which students set out to achieve and exceed these”.

U19 Men Football teams
NEW College offer students aged from 16–18 years old the chance to represent the College football teams (from 1st Team to 3rd Team) against other College representative sides at U19s level.
The NEW College 1st Team play in the British Colleges Sport League (BCS Football Yorkshire & Humberside West Division 1A), which is managed and coached by Nicholas Leadbeater and Jordy Walker, whilst former manager Andy Green has taken up the role of director of football.

Dale Smart currently holds the record for the oldest ever player to appear in a competitive game when he turned out against York College at the age of 21 years and 196 days old.
