Okay for Now is a children's novel by Gary D. Schmidt.
Plot Summary
Douglas "Doug" Swieteck is a fourteen-year-old boy living somewhere in New York. After Doug's dad was fired for mouthing off against his boss, Doug and his family moved to Marysville. In Marysville, Doug finds a book with drawings by John James Audubon. Doug starts to learn how to draw with Mr. Powell. Doug also meets a girl named Lillian "Lil" Spicer, which Doug has a crush on. Doug then received a job from Lil's dad as a delivery boy. When school starts, Doug was treated disrespectfully because his brother has recently been a suspect in a police investigation of theft.[1][2]
Awards
"Okay for now" was on The New York Times Best Seller list and an Amazon Book of the Year. The book also was a Children's Choice award winner.[3][4][5]
