Park Hae-jin (Hangul: 박해진, born May 1, 1983) is a South Korean actor. He is best known for his supporting roles in dramas My Love from the Star (2013) and Doctor Stranger (2014), and his leading roles in Bad Guys (2014) and Cheese in the Trap (2016).[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Career

Park began his acting career in KBS weekend drama Famous Chil Princesses. Park then starred in two highly successful TV projects and rose to fame - KBS daily drama Like Land and Sky with Han Hyo-joo and MBC television series East of Eden,[14] where he plays Shin Myung-hoon, a ruthless man who steals another person's sweetheart. Both drama drew high viewership ratings nationwide throughout its run and launched Park into a household name.

In 2009, Park joined the cast of SBS reality variety show Family Outing, which gave him more exposure. Park was known for his "delicate image" on the show, as he often lost in games to the other cast members.

Park also started expanding his career overseas. In 2011 and 2012, he starred in the Chinese dramas Qian Duo Duo Marry Remember and Another Kind of Splendid Life, and has since participated in Mainland productions throughout the years.

In 2013, Park Hae Jin was scheduled to fall in love with his first love's sister (Li Fei Er) on a new Chinese drama Far Away Love. The drama, which was produced back in 2013, premiered March 1, 2016 in China. Chinese dramas can take several years from production to premiere, according to his agency. In the drama, Park Hae Jin is a charismatic, cold-hearted CEO who runs a restaurant. He feels deeply hurt by his first love (Meng Jia Jia) and, by a twist of fate, falls in love with her younger sister, who is taking care of her sister's son (Wu Lei). This trendy romantic drama (March 1, 2016 -March 18, 2016) has become a major hit in China, ranking as the most popular according to Baidu.

He returned to the small screen back in Korea, playing Lee Sang-woo in Seoyoung, My Daughter. The drama became the highest-rated Korean drama of 2013, with a peak rating of 47.1%. This was followed up with a supporting role in hit fantasy romance series My Love From the Star.


In 2014, Park starred in popular medical drama Doctor Stranger, playing a Harvard's graduate doctor. Both dramas My Love From the Star and Doctor Stranger received massive success in China, and despite not having been the leading actor in both series, Park experienced a surge in popularity overseas and became known as a Hallyu star.

Park's breakout leading role was in the 2014 thriller Bad Guys, where he received critical acclaim for his performance as a villain. He was subsequently awarded the KDA Award at the 2015 Korea Drama Awards.

In 2016, his popularity increased after starring in the cable series Cheese in the Trap, based on the webtoon of the same name. In the drama, Park plays a popular college senior who secretly harbors a dark side to his other-wise kind and warm personality. The series was both a commercial and critical success, earning high ratings in both China and Korea, and won praise for its realistic depiction of the life of university students. Park's performance was especially lauded, with many fans of the original webtoon praising him for his accurate portrayal of the character. He was subsequently awarded the Best Actor at the 2016 Korean Cable TV Awards.


Park has been cast in JTBC's Man to Man, where he will be playing a bodyguard to a top star as well as a mysterious agent. He will also be reprising his role as Yoo-jung in the movie version of Cheese in the Trap, which will premiere in 2017.

On November 2, 2016 it was announced that Park will star in a web drama titled First Seven Kisses for Lotte Duty Free alongside Lee Min-ho, Lee Joon-gi, Lee Jong-suk, Ji Chang-wook, Kai of EXO and Ok Taec-yeon of 2PM.[15]

Personal life

Park Hae-jin's parents were divorced when he was young and he moved back in with his mother after 17 years of separation.[16]

Charity

Park Hae-Jin has been revealed to have given a large amount of money to various charities through consistent donations for the past few years which earned him the title “donation angel” in the entertainment industry.[17]

As a recognition for Hae Jin's volunteer work and charity activities he received "Civic Public Welfare Award" in 2014, which is given to 10 actors who are doing charitable activities in China. He was also delegated as a promotional ambassador for a charity called "Mu Qin Shui Jia".[18][19] Park donated 100 million Won (Approx USD 94,000) to benefit of the victims of flood in Busan in August 2014.[20] It was reported Park also donated the proceed from the opening of his 'Park Hae Jin Theater' in Shenyang Lotte World, China on October 17, 2014.[21]

Hae-jin's agency Mountain Movement confirmed Park has donated a total of 1.7 billion won (S$1.5 million) in various local and international charities since 2011. He has taken part in different community service activities and has hosted several charity events to help child cancer foundations and children’s education. Park even gave the proceeds of the fan meeting held in Seol on April 23, 2016 that celebrated the 10th anniversary of his debut.[22] In Korea alone, Park has made incalculable donations estimated at 1.1 billion won ($978,000) to various charities and associations, including the Sewol Ferry Disaster Groups and the Children's Rehabilitation Hospital. In Shanghai, China, he keeps on supporting children's welfare centre by taking an interest in a few outreach activities.[23]

In September 2016, Park donated 50million Won (Approx: USD 61,600) to the Korean Red Cross to aid restoration work in earthquake-damaged Gyeongju when the historic city suffered a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on September 12.[24][25]
