Payung Teduh is an Indonesian jazz-folk band from Jakarta.[1] The group consists of Alejandro Saksakame, Comi Aziz Kariko, Ivan Penwyn and Mohammad Istiqamah Djamad.
Career
2007-2010: Career beginnings and Payung Teduh
The band officially formed in 2007 in Jakarta, with initial formation Mohammad Istiqamah Djamad and Comi Aziz Kariko. These two close friends, Is and Comi, played their music anywhere from the canteen of FIB UI, hangout places inside the campus complex, to the lake side near UI’s Center Administration Building.[2] Their togetherness in playing music has been supported by friends around them which then lead to the creation of a duo that eventually became the next big thing at UI.
Payung Teduh invited Cito and Ivan to join the band as drummer and guitarist respectively. After playing duo for some time, it was necessary for them to improve their exploration in their music as well as improving their stage performance. The band had began working for debut indie studio album. In addition, Payung Teduh had released debut single, titled “Angin Pujaan Hati” which arranged by themselves. Overtime also writing other song, such as “Kucari Kamu”, “Untuk Perempuan Yang Sedang Dalam Pelukan”, and including works with Catur Ari Wibowo in theater, like “Resah” and “Cerita Tentang Gunung dan Laut”.
Their debut self-titled studio album had released on 2010 by Ivy League Music and its had brought character like the music in 60’s golden with a blend of kroncong and jazz.
2012-present: Dunia Batas
After two years later, Payung Teduh had return released second studio album Dunia Batas on 2012 and its single in album had took from previous album. On 2015, the band had performed the song “Untuk Perempuan Yang Sedang Dalam Pelukan” in Anugerah Musik Indonesia.[3]
