Periapalayam
Periapalayam is a village about 40 km north of Chennai, in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu State, India. It is in Ellapuram block which stretches from east Thanakulam village, west Uthukottai, north Kosavanpettai and in the south up to Komakambedu village. It has one of the main routes to Andhra Pradesh. The town is famous for the Sri Bhavani Amman Temple. This temple is located on the Arani river flowing through the town. The temple attracts thousands of people during the Tamil months of Adi and Avani especially during the weekends. .
Demographics
In the 2001 Indian census Periyapalayam (Tamil Nadu, India) had a population of 5,420, of which 2,756 were male, and 2,664 were female.[1]
In the 2011 census Periyapalayam (Tamil Nadu, India) recorded 6,749 inhabitants.[2]
Economy
It has several big companies like Winwind in Vengal village, Pennar in Kannigaipair, Sujana industries in Manjakaranai, Hydrabad chemicals in Kannigaipair and several warehouses Like Bata India Ltd (RDC) in Periyapalyam. It also has hundreds of brick chambers.
Infrastructure
It has a Govt. upgraded Primary Health Center (PHC) which is behind the temple and also one Girls higher secondary school in Uthukottai Road.

Temples
Bhavani Amman temple Bhavani Amman Temple in Periyapalayam stands as an attraction to many devotees. Bhavani Amman is the main deity of the temple.People throng here in thousands on weekends and in the month of Aadi and Avani. Located in about 45 km from Chennai in Chennai-Kolkata highway near Red Hills people can reach Periyapalayam.
The Temple is busy throughout the year and people visit the temple with their families to seek the blessings of Bhavani Amman. On the weekends people visit here in groups and have a divine get together.
The Temple is widely perceived as well maintained and well organized to help the devotees have a memorable Dharshan of Sri Bhavani Amman. According to the legend people refer Amman as the sister of Lord Krishna who managed to escape from the clutches of Kamsan (Demon King) and after warning Kamsan about his death she decided to settle in this place in name of Sri Bhavani. The temple after recent renovations shines as of Bhavani Amman, upon entering the temple Vinayagar has a separate Sanidhi in name of Sri Arpudha Sakthi Vinayagar, followed by Sri Sarva Sakthi Mathangi Amman and now people can reach the queue to start their Dharshan towards Bhavani Amman, free Dharshan and Special Dharshan for Rs.5 and Rs.25 are also available (Rs.25 ticket is the best option to have a closer view of Amman). The Moolasthanam Amman is seen with the Sangu Chakram in the upper part of her hands. A sword and Amirtha Kalasam are seen on her lower hands, a thousand watts vision (be ready to withstand the power of Amman eyes). When crossing the Moolasthanam Utsavar Amman we are welcomed by us sitting in a well-decorated seat, Kungumam and Theertham are offered as Prasadham, which is known to cure many ailments in the human body.
People offer their prayers wearing Neem leaves as clothes (Vaepanjalai). Offering Pongal, shaving heads and performance of Angapradakshinam are part of the rituals. Timings include 5 am – 9 am for Angapradkashinam, 5 am – 12 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm for Vaepanjalai and 5 am – 12 pm for Garagam.
People coming to Bhavani Amman Temple also visit Sannidhis of Sri Subrammaniyar, Srinivasa Perumal with Mahalakshmi, Anjaneyar, and Sri Prasuramar (one among the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu) and Naga Sannidhi.
