Peter C. Brown
Peter Christopher Brown (Born August 7, 1958) in Kansas City, Missouri is an accomplished businessman and former CEO of AMC Theatres. He currently serves and the CEO of Grassmere Partners and as a Board member for CenturyLink. Brown is Married to his wife Kate, and they have 6 kids. Until his retiring in 2009, Brown served as CEO at AMC Theaters for 10 years.[1]
Biography
Peter C. Brown, 52, is Chairman of Grassmere Partners, LLC, a private investment firm in Kansas City. Prior to joining AMC, Brown was associated with a New York City- based private equity firm. He began his business career with a re- gional commercial banking organization headquartered in Missouri. After leaving New York and Moving to Kansas City, Brown served as chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMC), one of the world's leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment companies, from July 1999 until his retirement in February 2009.[2]
He served as president from January 1997 to July 1999. He began his career with AMC in 1990 and became senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1991. Brown served as chairman of the board of trustees of Entertainment Properties Trust from 1997 to 2003. Mr. Brown currently serves as a director of CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL), a Fortune 500 provider of voice, broadband and video services in 33 states. Past additional public company boards include: National CineMedia, Inc. and Midway Games.[3]
Brown has also served the community through many civic activities and board memberships. He currently serves on the Rockhurst High School board of trustees, a position he also held 1998 through 2001. Brown has been a member of the board of advisors for the Uni- versity of Kansas School of Business; the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City; the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce board of directors; the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) board of advisors; and the Kansas City Art Institute board of trustees.
A native and resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Brown earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Kansas. Brown is the father of six children with former wife, Kathleen.
Awards
In 2003, Brown was honored to receive the 19th Annual Salah M. Hassanein Hu- manitarian Award, bestowed upon executives whose involvement, care and concern for community is as important as their dedication to the entertainment industry.
Brown was also presented the Kansas City Business Journal’s “Get on Board for Entrepreneurial Success” Outstanding Director Award in 2003.
In 2006, Brown won the National ShoWester of the Year,an honor that is given to individuals who, throughout their career, demonstrated a dedication to the betterment of the exhibition industry and its causes, Given at the annual ShoWest in Las Vegas.
Brown’s philanthropic endeavors include both personal involve- ment and professional support of AMC programs. These include: The Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City; The Mid America and Southern California chapters of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; DeLaSalle Education Center; Variety— The Children’s Charity; Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foun- dation; The St. Lawrence Center at the University of Kansas.
In 2007, Brown was the recipient of the National MS Society’s highest honor, the Hope Award, of which he was bestowed for his civic and philanthropic commitment.
In 2008, Brown was honored at the university of Kansas' Distinguished Alumni award ceremony.
