Pilkhana, Kolkata

Pilkhana is a slum in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is part of Howrah, which is poor. It is the slum the best-seller City of Joy has been written about.[1] Pilkhana has at least tens of thousands of residents.[2] It is not far from Howrah Station.[3] A Hallman High School exists.[4] As for religious adherents, it has significant Hindu and Muslim populations.[5] Pilkhana is of industrial character.[6] It is part of Howrah Sadar constituency.[7] The Salesians of Don Bosco are present in Pilkhana.[8] Another notable slum near Kolkata is Tikia Para in Howrah.
