about polarization anions are large in size than cation and therefore their electron cloud are less than tightly held in an molecule when a cation approaches nearby anion closely the positive charge on the action tend to attract the electron cloud of the anion towards itself due to electrostatics force of attraction existing between at the same times the action combined effect of these two forces is that the electron cloud of the anion no lorger remain symmetry but is elongated towards the cation this phenomenon is called distortion.
