Portapique

Portapique in Nova Scotia

Portapique is a rural community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Colchester County.

Situated near the mouth of the Portapique River, which flows into the Minas Basin, its economy is based mainly on farming. The name Portapique is a corruption of the Acadian word 'Porc-epic', meaning porcupine. The village was in fact named as such until the Acadians no longer lived there.[1]

The artist Joy Laking is a well-known resident.[2] Coordinates: 45°24′16.98″N 63°42′11.5″W / 45.4047167°N 63.703194°W / 45.4047167; -63.703194 (Portapique, Nova Scotia)
