Portuguese Handball Second Division or "2a Divisão Portuguese" is the second handball league in Portugal. The best teams get promoted to Portuguese Handball First Division and the worst relegated to Portuguese Handball Third Division.
Due to some disputes between the League and the Federation, between 2002 and 2008, the second handball league was named Divisão de Elite, and it Champions was also declared Portuguese Champions till 2005 (the winner of Portuguese Premier League was not considered national champion by the Federation). In 2008 the League was extinct and all clubs and competitions were under Federation scope. Divisão de Elite designation was reversed to Portuguese Handball Second Division again.
