PowaTag is a mobile payment enabling technology and mobile application by Powa Technologies.[1][2] PowaTag was launched at a March 2014 event in New York by Powa CEO Dan Wagner.[3] At the time of launch, more than 240 retailers were reportedly signed up with the service.[4] In May 2014, fashion brand Comptoir des Cotonniers debuted the technology across a number of major French cities.[5] In February 2016, investment company Wellington Management appointed professional services firm Deloitte as administrators of PowaTag.[6]

Features

With the app, users can make purchases using a smartphone, with payment and delivery details tied to a specific smartphone device.[7] The app incorporates elements of QR code detection, audio recognition, and beacon technology. Audio watermarks in the form of inaudible tones embedded within radio, commercials, or live broadcast events are detectable by the app, taking users to a mobile commerce store where a purchase can be made.[8]
