Prairie Plant Systems Inc. (PPS), founded in August 1988, is a privately held plant biotechnology company specializing in biopharmaceutical and agricultural products. The company specializes in the principle of manufacturing pharmaceuticals derived from harvestable plants grown in biosecure Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) production facilities, including medical cannabis for clinical trials, research and direct to patients through their CanniMed subsidiary.

PPS began its business by advancing agricultural biotechnology to provide fruit tree stock to commercial and private orchards. Fruit products include Saskatoon berries, haskap (blue honeysuckle) and dwarf sour cherries. PPS provides agricultural contract services including Pre-Elite seed stock potato plantlets, tubers and other research and propagation services.

Until March 31, 2014, PPS was the sole supplier of medical marijuana to Health Canada for the duration of the Marihuana Medical Access Regulation.[1]
