Isthmura naucampatepetl (until recently, Pseudoeurycea naucampatepetl; common name: Cofre de Perote salamander) is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is endemic to the Sierra Madre Oriental in central Veracruz, Mexico, where it is known from between Cofre de Perote and Cerro Volcancillo.[1][2][3] Despite thorough surveys, it has not been observed for a long period and is feared extinct.[1][3]
Its natural habitat is pine-oak forests with abundant bunch grass. Extensive logging, farming, and expanding human settlements have led to loss of much of the original habitat, and the remaining habitat is very degraded.[1]
