Pterandra is a genus in the Malpighiaceae, a family of about 75 genera of flowering plants in the order Malpighiales. Pterandra comprises 15 species of trees, shrubs, and subshrubs, all but two native to South America, principally Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil; the exceptions (P. mcphersonii, P. isthmica) are from Panama.[1][2]

These three names in Pterandra are synonyms and not accepted (Anderson 1997): Pterandra latifolia Adr. Juss. is synonym for Acmanthera latifolia (Adr. Juss.) Griseb.; Pterandra opulifolia Rusby is a synonym for Hiraea opulifolia (Rusby) Nied.; Pterandra psidiifolia Adr. Juss. is a synonym for Pterandra pyroidea Adr. Juss.
