The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is the largest of all faculties at Queen's University, and one of the original three faculties that founded the school in 1841.
The faculty’s student government is the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (A.S.U.S.). A.S.U.S. sends eight representatives and its executive to the university-wide undergraduate student government, the AMS. It also has its own assembly and manages its own set of events, organizations, and committees.
Computing
The School of Computing makes its home in Goodwin Hall. It has the highest graduate-undergraduate ratio of any department at Queen's (nearly 2:1). The Turing Award (called the "Nobel Prize of Computing") has only ever been award to 2 Canadians, one of which was a Queen's alumnus.
Psychology
Psychology is one of the departments at Queen's with the highest enrollment. The psychology department is mostly located in both the Craine and Humphrey buildings. First year classes are often held in the Bioscience Complex or on West Campus. It is competitive and requires high first year marks to continue in the program.
Political Studies
The Department of Political Studies is one of the oldest departments of political science in Canada. Former faculty members have included John Meisel who pioneered voting studies in Canada, former Queen's principal Ronald Lampman Watts an expert in federalism, development theorist Colin Leys, and Canadian politics/parliamentary expert Ned Franks. It offers undergraduate and graduate courses in International Relations, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, Canadian Politics and Gender and Politics. At 23 faculty members, it is a medium-sized political science department but offers both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. It is among the top six in undergraduate enrollment at the university. The Head is Janet Hiebert Other notable professors include: Kim Richard Nossal, and John McGarry.
History
The Department of History makes its home in Watson Hall. Historian and author Donald Akenson is a Professor of History at Queen's.
Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics makes its home in Jeffery Hall. Queen's is one of only three Canadian Schools (along with Toronto and Waterloo) to win first prize in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.
Chemistry
Queen's Chemistry is ranked in the top 100 chemistry departments worldwide by Academic Rankings of World Universities in 2009. Queen's Chemistry is only one of 5 Canadian departments in the top 100
