Quitman Independent School District

Quitman Independent School District is a public school district based in Quitman, Texas (USA). The district's mascot is the Bulldog.

In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.[1]

Cross Examination Debate

The Quitman High School Cross Examination Debate teams have qualified for the UIL State Competition (since 2007) 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, & 2014. The following debaters earned Ocotfinal medals in 2011 Shaye Thomas & Austin Dobbs, 2013 Austin Dobbs & William Surratt, 2014 Austin Dobbs & William Surratt. In the year 2013 Austin Dobbs earned the Silver Medal for 2nd best speaker in the state, in 2014 he earned 5th Top Speaker in the state for Conference 2A. Past State qualifiers not listed above; Alex Ontiveros, Madison Collins, Lauren Hawkins, Shelby Herring, Beth Noble, & Hayle Hardy.

One Act Play

The Quitman High School One Act Play has appeared at the UIL State Competition four times: 1983, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2010, Quitman won the Zone, District, Area and Regional Championships with their production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. At the State Meet held at the University of Texas at Austin. After winning the Zone, District, Area and Regional Championships again in 2011 and 2012, Quitman won First Runner-Up at the State Meet with their production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, announcing them as the second best play in Texas in AA in 2011. In 2008, the UIL One Act Play received state alternate for their production of Golden Boy. The One Act Play has won the district championship ten consecutive years.

Golf

The varsity boys' golf team has appeared at the State Championship four consecutive years: 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2010, Quitman won the 2A State Championship of Texas, producing the first ever athletic team championship in school history. In 2009, the golf team placed fourth at the State Championship. In 2011, the golf team finished in sixth place.

In 2012, the girls' varsity golf team advanced to the State Championship.

In 2014, the boys' varsity golf team advanced to the State Championship.

Volleyball

The Quitman Lady Bulldog volleyball team has appeared at the state tournament seven times and has appeared at the state championship twice. The volleyball team advanced to state three consecutive years: 2003, 2004, 2005. Between 2001 and present, the team has lost two district games, and has won the district championship nine consecutive years.

UIL Academics

In 2011, a Quitman High School student won the state championship in the UIL News Writing category, marking the third state championship in UIL Journalism. Over a dozen students have advanced the state championship in either UIL Prose or Poetry Interpretation, with four placing in the top six and one placing in the top two. In 2011, Quitman High School won the district academic UIL championship.

In 2012 Austin Dobbs advanced to the state championship in Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking.

In 2007 Joe Terrell advanced to the state championship in Current Issues & Events, as well as Informative Extemporaneous Speaking.

The Current Issues & Events team advanced to the Regional Competition in 2010, 2013 & 2014.

Lincoln Douglas Debate

Lincoln Douglas debater Gracen Daniel advanced to the Regional Competition placing in the top 6 in 2013, 2012, and 2011.
