R. C. Lee Hall (利銘澤堂) is one of the 13 residential halls of the University of Hong Kong. It is located on 6A Sassoon Road, Pokfulam, Hong Kong.[1] R. C. Lee Hall was established in 1992. The hall is named after Richard Charles Lee, the son of Hysan Lee. The hall motto is "Liberty with Responsibility, Unity in Diversity".[2] The warden of R. C. Lee Hall is Dr. Robert Chung, who is also the director of HKU Public Opinion Program.[3]

Warden

Main article: Robert Chung

Dr. Robert Chung has been the warden of R. C. Lee Hall since 1992 (the establishment of the hall). Dr. Chung is also the Director of Public Opinion Programme (POP) at the University of Hong Kong since the programme's foundation in 1991. Up to the year of 2016, POP has conducted over 1,500 independent surveys, covering media development, electoral studies, policy issues, and youth studies. The output of POP is widely covered by the media and frequently cited in various academic publications.[4] Apart from being the warden of R. C. Lee Hall, Dr. Chung is also a panelist of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Programme Advisory Panel and a panelist of the RTHK Television Programme Appreciation Index Research Panel.

Under the leadership of Dr. Chung, students of R. C. Lee Hall have always been reminded of the importance of academic freedom, critical thinking and the capacity for independent thinking. Dr. Chung has also led the hall to carry out hall reform projects, in order to refresh the values of hall education in current context.[5][6]

Student Organisations

R. C. Lee hall has its own Students' Association, Editorial Board and TV channel (RCTV), providing platforms for intellectual exchange among students.[7]

Social responsibility

One of the most important values of hall education is to impart hall-mates with a sense of social responsibilities.[8] We are reminded of the virtue of giving and responsibility by exercising the knowledge we learnt and putting them into good use for society. The Current Affairs Subcommittee and the Social Service Subcommittee have been trying to leverage hall as a place of open exchange and discussion of ideas, and thereby inspiring and empowering hall-mates to take action to contribute to society. Activities including Current Affairs forums, guest talks, volunteer services, charity sales have been regularly organised by the above subcommittees.[2]

Teams

Participation in different hall teams has always been one of the highlights of the hall education experience in R. C. Lee Hall. Students are encouraged to join different teams so as to experience sportsmanship, team spirit and perseverance.[2]
