Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon is an upcoming 3D attraction which will open in Spring 2017 at Universal Studios Florida, based on Fallon's tenure at The Tonight Show.
History
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is an American late-night talk show hosted by Jimmy Fallon on NBC. The show premiered on February 17, 2014, and it is the seventh incarnation of NBC's long-running Tonight Show franchise, with Fallon serving as the sixth host. The show also stars sidekick and announcer Steve Higgins and house band The Roots. The Tonight Show originates from Studio 6B, where Johnny Carson's Tonight Show also was taped, in Rockefeller Center, New York City.
On the October 27, 2015 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon officially announced the attraction which is set to open in 2017 at Universal Studios Florida. The attraction, which is based on the popular celebrity race segment from Fallon's show, will replace Twister...Ride it Out, which closed on November 2, 2015.[1]
Development
Filming commenced on November 4, 2015 at Studio 8H, where Saturday Night Live originates, as confirmed by photos shared by Fallon on his Instagram account. Fallon is seen wearing a motion capture suit and helmet, while sitting on a makeshift go-kart, surrounded by motion capture cameras. Fallon posted another photo on his Twitter account on a closed set in Vancouver filming new scenes for the attraction on April 18, 2016, this time wearing a suit as he usually wears on The Tonight Show, sitting in a hydraulic go-kart simulator in front of a green screen.[2]
Construction
Construction began in March 2016, when the first supports for the ride's facade were brought to Stage 50, where the ride will be housed in.[3]
Overview
According to Fallon, the ride will have a similar ridership experience to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and will be in 3D.[4] It was revealed by Fallon on social media, that Industrial Light & Magic was in charge of filming motion capture footage for the attraction.[5] In a video released by Universal Orlando, early November 2016,[6] and a post by the theme park's official blog[7] various cast and Fallon characters were revealed to have an appearance in the attraction, including Sara and her stepdad, Gary, seen carrying a basket with the "Puppy Predictors" Golden Retriever puppies inside, Fallon's Tight Pants character, Steve Higgins, Tonight Show house band The Roots, The Ragtime Gals and Tonight Show mascot Hashtag the Panda.
Queue
The attraction's queue will feature a replica of Studio 6B, where The Tonight Show is taped, where guests can watch a performance from the Ragtime Gals barbershop quartet, screens featuring Fallon's bits, such as History of Rap and Lip Sync Battle as well as a meet-and-dance session with Hashtag the Panda. The queue will also have an interactive desk where guests can write their own personalized Tonight Show Thank You Notes, prep for the ride with a Fallon retro-style video game, and watch show clips.[7]
Memorabilia
The NBC Studios gift shop will have on display various pieces of The Tonight Show's 62-year history, such as suits of past hosts, desk props and NBC video cameras used to record the show, all adjacent to a display of the current host, Jimmy Fallon.[7]
