S. V. Rajendra Singh Babu is a Kannada film maker and producer. He was born and brought up in Mysore. His father late Shankar Singh was one of the great producers in Kannada Film Industry and has produced many films under the banner Mahatma Pictures (Mysore). Rajendra Singh Babu has made movies in different genres. He has written and directed love stories, War, suspense thrillers and comedy movies. Many of his films have been adapted from novels or short stories.[1] He is not only famous in Karnataka but also across all of India. Babu has won numerous awards for his films and has also directed movies in the Hindi and Telugu languages. His sister Vijayalakshmi is the wife of actor Jai Jagadish.

Early life

Rajendra Singh Babu born in Mysore, Karnataka. His father, the late Shankar Singh, was a producer and director of Kannada films. His mother, Prathima Devi, was an actress in Kannada cinema. In an interview, Babu mentioned that his father wanted him to become a doctor but his own passion for camera propelled him to the film industry. Hailing from a family of movie makers, Babu was fascinated with films like Great escape, Guns of Navarone and Bridge on the river Kwai. He believed that:

Cinema should go near the audience.[2]

He is the winner of the president's Rajat Kamal Award for best film and director thrice for movies Bandhana, Muttina Haara and Mungarina Minchu. Babu has won many state awards for his films.[6] and has been honoured with Puttanna Kangal prestigious Award given by the Karnataka State Govt. to a film personality on the lines of Dada Saheb Phalke Award in Karnataka.
