Rakefet Russak-Aminoach (Hebrew: רקפת רוסק עמינח‎‎; born February 1, 1966)[1] is the current President and CEO of Bank Leumi le-Israel B.M., a position she has held since May 1, 2012. In September 2015, she was listed in Fortune Magazine’s list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women.[2]

Russak-Aminoach was born and raised in Ramat Aviv, Israel. She is the daughter of Rachel and Shmuel Russak, CPA, and the second of three daughters.[3] She is married to Reem Aminoach, former Financial Advisor to the Commander in Chief of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), with whom she has two daughters.[4]

Education

After completing secondary school, Russak-Aminoach immediately began her academic studies at Tel Aviv University, within the framework of 'Atuda', the Israeli military's Academic Reserves Program. After graduating with honors with a B.A. in Economics and Accounting, she did her accounting internship at her father’s firm.[5]

At the age of 21, Russak-Aminoach began her M.B.A. studies at Tel Aviv University, specializing in Finance and lecturing at the university's Accounting Faculty at the same time. Again, she graduated with honors and went on to complete her L.L.B. at Tel Aviv University. At the age of 24, Russak-Aminoach began her military service as a lecturer in the IDF Command & Staff College, where she taught Operations Research.[6][7]

Career

Between 1992-1994, Russak-Aminoach served as personal assistant to Galia Maor,[8] then Deputy CEO of Bank Leumi le-Israel. In 1995, Russak-Aminoach became a partner at the Somekh-Chaikin (KPMG Israel) CPA firm. Five years later, she was appointed Managing Partner and CEO of the firm.[9]

In January 2004, at the age of 38, Russak-Aminoach was appointed Head of the Corporate Division of Bank Leumi, becoming the youngest member of the Management Board in the history of the Bank.[10] On July 1, 2011, she was appointed Senior Deputy to then CEO of the Bank, Galia Maor, simultaneously serving as Head of the Corporate Division. Between the years 2004-2012, 55% of the Leumi Group’s profits were attributed to the Corporate Division, under Russak-Aminoach’s leadership[11]

On May 1, 2012, Russak-Aminoach was appointed CEO of Bank Leumi.[12] Since her appointment, she has led a number of significant undertakings for the Leumi Group, such as the decision to establish the first fully digital bank in Israel (which will begin operating in 2016), the implementation of an extensive streamlining program across the Group, the merging of the 'Arab-Israel' Bank with Bank Leumi, and the establishment of 'Leumi-Tech', the Group's hi-tech arm[13]

In September 2015, Russak-Aminoach was listed, for the first time, in Fortune Magazine’s list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women.[14] Russak-Aminoach was ranked 23rd in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.[15][16]

In December 2015, Russak-Aminoach was selected as one of the "Ten Most Innovative CEO's in Banking 2015" by the leading US FinTech blog Bank Innovation.[17]

In September 2016, Russak-Aminoach was listed, once again, in Fortune's 100 Most Powerful Women list. She was ranked 43rd in the international list.

In November 2016, Russak-Aminoach was included in the BBC's "100 Women 2016" list, which consists of inspirational and influential women around the globe. Russak-Aminoach was the only Israeli in the list.[18]
