Reach Out Recovery is a United States based recovery community organization stated by Leslie Glass in 2011.[1][2][3]
History
The organization was founded by Leslie Glass and her daughter, Lindsey, on March 2011 at Sarasota, Florida. Before starting the organization Leslie was a philanthropist, crime novelist, journalist, and playwright. The organization was inspired by Glass's own journey in the recovery world, when about 18 years ago her daughter struggled with substance use in her late teens and early 20s. The lack of resources and support motivated the mother and daughter to provide help for other families facing the same issues.[4][5]
Works and Impact
Reach Out Recovery is a comprehensive platform that offers offers information about substance and behaviors addictions, recovery information. Its mission is to lift the stigma from addiction and help people impacted by it to understand and cope.[6][7][8]
Website
The Reach Out Recovery website contains a substance and behavior use disorder database, the new official terms for addiction. It also has Recovery Help sections on how to cope with addiction and promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthy families, Reach Out Recovery reaches an audience of 120 million adults and children whose lives have been impacted by addiction. The website also brings together daily news relevant to recovery issues, resources for parents and teens, and information about community and treatment.[9][10][11]
Awareness
Leslie Glass produced and directed the 2012 documentary titled The Secret World of Recovery which tells some of the mother and daughter story and what happens after people leave addiction treatment and start on the next phase of their lives in recovery. The documentary premiered at the Sarasota Film Festival in 2011. The Secret World of Recovery is the winner of the 2016 Association of Addiction Medicine Media Award.[12][13]
Leslie Glass produced and directed The Silent Majority a 2014 teen addiction prevention documentary that premiered at the Gasparilla Film Festival in 2014 and on PBS station WEDU and was distributed by American Public Television to PBS stations nationwide in 2015. The Silent Majority spotlights five unique programs of positive reinforcement that empower teens to think for themselves. Debunking the myth that most teens are involved in the partying culture, The Silent Majority tells the surprising truth that some 70% make healthy choices about drugs and alcohol and shows that adult guidance, mentorship, and empowering youth are the key to protecting them.[14]
