René Debrie

René Debrie (4 July 1920 – 1 August 1989) was a French linguist.

Rene Debrie, French linguist, Doctor of Philology, professor emeritus at the University of Picardy, was born in Warloy-Baillon on 4 July 1920, and died in Amiens on 1 August 1989 [1] .

He obtained a literature degree in 1944 and his PhD at the Sorbonne in 1960.

Debrie began his research career in 1950. In the years 1960-1980, it is one of the masters of dialectology of Picard whom he greatly enriched by his work. He has published numerous books and lexicons of dialectology. He is an assistant professor in 1975 at the University of Picardie and professor in 1979.

He encouraged many "disciples" to publish lexicons, dictionaries of regional languages and testing. Among them are Beauvy Francois and Pierre Ivart. He is the founder of the Centre d'études picardes (Center for Studies of picard) of the University of Picardy.

In 1966, he created the cultural association Éklitra with Pierre Garnier and Rene Vaillant.
