General Robert Ellice (1784 - 18 June 1856) was a British Army officer.
Military career
Born the son of Alexander Ellice and brother of Edward Ellice,[1] Ellice was commissioned as an ensign on 8 November 1798.[2] He saw action at Buenos Aires in 1807 before becoming Deputy Adjutant-General in Canada in 1809.[2] He went on to be General Officer Commanding Western District in 1840[3] and General Officer Commanding the British troops in Malta in 1847.[4]
He was also colonel of the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot.[5]
He was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.
Family
He married Eliza Courtney, the illegitimate daughter of Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey and Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire.[1] Their son General Sir Charles Ellice was Adjutant-General to the Forces. Their daughter Eliza married Henry Trevor, 21st Baron Dacre.
