The Very Reverend Robert Gregory
The Very Reverend Robert Gregory, DD was a reforming Anglican Dean[1] in the last decade of the 19th century[2] and the first one of the 20th.[3] Born 9 February 1819.[4] he was educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. There he distinguished himself by gaining the 'Denyer Theological Prize Essay'.[5] He was ordained in 1843 [6] and began his career with a curacies at Bisley, Wragby and Lambeth.
He was later Vicar of St Mary the Less, Lambeth[7] from 1853 to 1873. After this he was a Canon at St Paul’s Cathedral[8] before succeeding to the Deanery[9] in 1891.[10] In 1873 he was elected to the School Board for London.[11] He died on 2 August 1911.[12] His son later became Bishop of Mauritius.
