Ruth Wendy Langsford (born 17 March 1960) is an English television presenter, best known for presenting numerous shows with her husband Eamonn Holmes such as This Morning (2000–present), Gift Wrapped (2014) and How the Other Half Lives (2015–present).

Langsford is also an anchor on ITV's lunchtime chat show Loose Women.

Early life

Langsford was born in Singapore to father Dennis and mother Joan. She lived in five different countries before the age of ten including Germany and North Africa.

Career

Television

Langsford began her career as a continuity announcer and newscaster with ITV regional station TSW in South West England. She left TSW when Westcountry Television took over the franchise on 1 January 1993, even closing down the station with fellow announcer, Ian Stirling.

From 1999 until 2002, Langsford was a regular panellist on ITV's daytime chat show Loose Women. In 2010, she returned to the show as a stand-in anchor until 2013. Langsford rejoined Loose Women on 8 January 2014 as a regular anchor.[1]

In 2000, Langsford became a guest presenter on This Morning, and was made a regular presenter in 2006 where she co-hosted alongside Phillip Schofield. Later that year, the show introduced Eamonn Holmes to co-host with Langsford every Friday. Together they currently host This Morning on Fridays, during school holidays and when Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are absent from the programme.

Langsford was one of the main presenters on the now defunct TV Travel Shop which was on air from April 1998 until March 2005. She also hosted The Answer Lies in the Soil (1999), The Great British Garden Show, Langsford Late (1999), The Really Useful Show (1997) and Gardens of the Millennium (1999).

In 2004, Langsford narrated the television series Zoo Story. She guest presented five episodes of GMTV with Lorraine in 2010. Langsford was a contestant on Marco's Kitchen Burnout in 2010 and competed in Born to Shine in 2011.[2]

In 2014, Langsford and Eamonn Holmes co-hosted ten episodes of the ITV teatime quiz show Gift Wrapped.[3]

Since 2015, Langsford and Holmes have presented Channel 5 series How the Other Half Lives, with a second series airing in 2016.[4][5] A third series has been commissioned and will be broadcast in 2017.

Other work

In September 2010, Langsford co-hosted the breakfast show on BBC London 94.9 alongside Paul Ross.[6]

In 2011, Langsford became the brand ambassador for Playtex.[7]

Langsford has written columns for Woman Magazine and Tesco Magazine. She was an ambassador for two Tesco food campaigns.[8][9]

Langsford fronted a new TV advertisement campaign for Clarivu laser eye surgery in 2013; however, the advert was later banned by the watchdogs over "misleading claims".[10] Langsford was on the judging panel for the Pride of Britain Awards in 2016.

Personal life

On 26 February 2002, Langsford and Holmes welcomed son Jack Alexander.[11] On 27 March 2009, after a viewer noticed a diamond ring on Langsford's finger, it was announced live on This Morning that the couple were engaged. On 26 June 2010, they married in Hampshire.[12]

Langsford lives in a six-bedroom mansion in Weybridge, Surrey with her family. The couple put their house on the market but later cut the price by 7%.[13]

The family have a Border Collie and Dachshund cross called Maggie, which they adopted from the Dogs Trust in 2011.[14][15]

Charity work

Langsford is an ambassador for Alzheimer's Society;[16] she has completed the Hyde Park Adidas Women's 5k, the BUPA Great Capital run around Regent's Park, and Memory Walk, all raising money and awareness for the charity.[17][18][19]

In November 2011, Langsford hosted a ladies lunch charity event in Manchester to raise money for The Christie & Francis House.[20]

Since 2012, Langsford along with Eamonn Holmes have been celebrity patrons of the Dogs Trust charity, after adopting their dog Maggie from the charity the previous year.[21]

In 2014, Langsford and Holmes, along with other famous faces including Paul O'Grady, starred in a Dementia Friends TV advertisement campaign to raise awareness about the disease. The advert was shown throughout 2014.[22]

She also supports Centra.[23]
